Recently, in response to the Glivec patent dispute in the civil courts of India, public debate has arisen around issues of patent protection, corporate responsibility, and access to life-saving medications. Many publications fail to acknowledge the generosity of Novartis and their unprecedented initiatives for access to Glivec in the developing world, including the Glivec International Patient Assistance Program (GIPAP).



In the last five years, Novartis has donated Glivec free of charge to more than 20,000 patients in 81 countries. The Max Foundation administers GIPAP globally. We believe that this program has provided CML and GIST patients in developing countries with unparalleled access to treatment.
